Principal of South Side Upper Elementary

Mrs.Tarva Cook

Tarva is a native of Poplarville and an honors graduate from Poplarville High School
class of 1998. Tarva attended Pearl River Community College and later transferred to
The University of Southern Mississippi, where she received her Bachelor of Science
degree in Community Health Science. She started her educational career as a
Behavioral Specialist for the Lawrence County School District. Tarva later transitioned to
the classroom as an Exceptional Education teacher before moving to the general
education setting, where she taught middle school science. Tarva decided to pursue her
education farther and attended William Carey University where she received her
Master’s of Education in Mild/Moderate Disabilities. She also obtained her school
administrator certification and served as Assistant Principal for Picayune Jr. High
School. With 20 plus years of experience she currently serves as Principal at South
Side Upper Elementary, where her motto for her students is “If you believe it, you can
achieve it!” She believes that if she speaks success and progress into the lives of her
students and staff everyday, then it shall come to pass!
